HIKING

The resort Borsec is situated in the Oriental Carpathians in the basin with the same name formed by Calimani Mountains (Pietrosul peak 2100 m), Bistritei Mountains (1859), Ceahlau (Ocolasul Mare 1907 m) and Giurgeului Mountains. It is to be found at a distance of 91 km from Bicaz, 120 km from Tg. Mures, 125 km from Miercurea Ciuc and 186 km from Brasov.

The climate of Borsec works on the organism: it whets man’s appetite and accumulates vitamins, it normalizes the digestion, it increases the resistance against illness and it quickly recovers the physical and intellectual potential.
The resort Borsec is the perfect place for rest and recreation: it is a real paradise for hiking. Borsec has its specific picturesque and attractions, but the surroundings also have the same characteristics:
- Glade of Fairies
- Marble Quarry (the rock which the Spark House in Bucharest had been built from)
- Seven Springs, a place to be found only at 1500 m from the center of the resort, called this way after the number of the springs which furnish Borsec with drinking – water. The distance can be covered in 30 minutes; this is the way to reach the Glade of Fairies and the Marble Quarry.
- The Bear Cave at 30 minutes from the center of the resort (an 1145-m route). Giant pines watch here over a group of cliffs eroded by weather, winds and waters. Not far from here, at about 30-35 minutes there is the Ice Cave, which melts…. in winter!
- Pierre Curie Spring - at 1800 m from the center, it has the most radioactive water in the station.
- The Owl Cave, at 1 h from the center of the resort, a long ago the owls nested between the cliffs. From this place you can have a beautiful view over Wine and Bistricioara streams, the right place for fishers.
- Faget and Fagetel Mountains can be reached by car, and in winter only by sleigh or jeep; it is a place where the Romanian’s ancestral occupation – shepherding can take you back in time by traditions and natural food. For those who love winter sports: Faget Mountain 1300 m for advanced, Fagetel for beginners.
